Kerri Lyons Neimeyer

Artist and Educator

Bio

Kerri Lyons Neimeyer grew up in Endwell, New York, on a street with two dead ends. She graduated from Binghamton University with a BS in cultural anthropology and philosophy, supplemented by courses at McGill University, Montreal, Georgetown University in Washington, DC, and the University of Texas at Austin. Her academic focus was on the formation and expression of identity and beliefs across the lifespan.

Lyons Neimeyer’s most meaningful professional work happened at BookPeople in Austin, Texas, and Frame Dance Productions in Houston. In both places, she worked alongside accomplished creatives and produced programming for young learners designed to expand and refine their ideas about who they are and what they can create in this world.

Artist Statement

I have a distinct and early memory of imagining myself wearing two different dresses - a red gingham and a yellow floral - and as I mentally flipped between the two dresses, I noticed that my posture and expression also changed in each image. “This means something,” I recall thinking, and I have sought meaning in visual work ever since.

My studio practice is focused on works on paper with multimedia methods of "drawing" and a preference for the figural. I like to think about intent, impulse, power, and fragility in aesthetic forms. Many of my pieces consider what we communally value, and I value humor above most other virtues.
